About me

Linda Waitokia

People came into my life at a time when I needed their guidance and wisdom which set me on a new growth path. I appreciate the learning opportunities I was given and now have the privilege of imparting this knowledge to others.

My journey of discovery entailed unpacking “baggage” from my childhood which eventually led me to professional development. I am trained in addictions and social work and my expertise lies in working from a family perspective. We are each shaped in early life by the experiences and relationships we have as well as the perceptions we hold about them.

Personally and professionally I utilize Nature as a template for balance, restoration, growth and learning whilst embracing the holistic perspective to include mental, physical social and spiritual elements. Mental health and emotional health are linked so when one aspect is out of balance it may manifest as another symptom.

I am passionate about empowering people to make positive changes in their lives and assisting them to reach their goals.

Qualifications & Certificates

  • Bachelor Degree in Alcohol & Drug Studies at WelTec completed in 2003
  • Certificate in Supervision 2004 – WelTec
  • Certificate in Social & Community Work completed in 2005 with Massey University.

Next to this I’ve done a lot of professional development over the years.

I’ve been working in the health sector many moons (since age 19) initially in physical health care. Resumed after I had a family as nurse aide, recreational therapist and caregiver roles. Starting studying Social work part time.

After 8 years own business, sold up to commenced study full time toward the Alcohol & Drug studies. Before this I facilitated support groups for children/teens with alcoholic parent & support groups for women with an alcoholic family member.

Early on people shared their secrets with me which meant they trusted me. After a life time of experiences, personal development growth and being unpaid counsellor, I became qualified.

20 years would be a good number to put on my work in this field. A private practise since 2005.
